Washing Instructions
Detergent:
You
need to use a detergent with no additives, no brighteners, whiteners, fabric
softeners or fragrances. We recommend Tiny Bubbles Rockin' Green, and Thirsties Super Wash. They were made for cloth diapers. Other detergents that can be used are: (use only half the amount recommended of
these detergents) Allen’s Naturally, Seventh Generation
Delicate Care, Planet, Mountain Green, and Country Save.
Preparing your Diapers for first use:
All natural cotton products: Prefolds
will need to be washed on hot 6-8 times with a small amount of detergent. They will quilt up and become more absorbent
with each wash. You can dry after every other wash. Other cotton diapers (Kissaluvs) require 3-5 initial washes for best results.
All hemp products: Must be washed
by themselves in hot water and a small amount of detergent 4-5 times to strip
natural oils. Hemp will continue to get more absorbent with each wash, being
fully primed after 9-10 washes. Drying between the initial washes is not
necessary.
Everything else: Diaper Covers, pocket diapers and All In Ones and All
In twos need to be washed and dried
once. Some pocket diapers and AIOs have organic cotton or hemp - these products
will require additional washing to prepare. This includes Swaddlebees Econappi,
and Bum Genius Organic All in Ones, Easy Fit All in Ones, etc)
Regular Washing Routine:
- Wash every other day or every 3 days, no more
than that.
- Knock off all solids into the toilet (unless your
baby is only breastfed, that poop can go right into the wash.)
- Fasten any velcro closures to the laundry tabs
and remove any inserts from pocket diapers.
- Washing day –put all diapers and the pail liner
into the wash.
- Run a cold rinse with no detergent to get rid of
any poop.
- Do a hot wash, on a large load setting with
detergent
- Run an extra cold rinse to make sure all the
detergent is washed out.
- Dry in the dryer on low or line dry.
If you have a front loader: Add
a wet towel to your load of diapers, it will make them heavier and use more
water.
Do not use bleach or fabric softeners!
